What does the operator need in order to complete a maintenance task?
Define what maintenance work requires
The Resource worksheet names the labor, tools, materials, and training needed to carry out operational work. Resource.Name is the primary key, so one well-defined resource can be referenced by many Job records instead of being described differently in every task.
A Resource should be specific enough for a planner to understand the requirement. 'Technician' may be too broad when a licensed electrician, controls specialist, confined-space team, lifting device, calibration kit, or manufacturer training is required. Category and Description provide the context needed to distinguish those requirements.
Separate Resources from people and spare parts
Resource describes a class of capability or item needed for work, not the named person currently assigned to perform it. Named organizations and people belong in Contact. Likewise, replacement parts that are stocked or sourced for a product belong in Spare, even though a Job may also consume materials while it is performed.
Job.ResourceNames creates the operational link. Teams should verify that each reference resolves to an existing Resource and that required tools, skills, safety provisions, and training are not buried only in an attached manual. The structured list can help a receiving CMMS prepare task templates and labor planning.
Add O&M resources without inventing model data
Resource information is normally sourced from manufacturer instructions, method statements, commissioning procedures, safety plans, and owner maintenance standards. Revit may identify the affected product Type but rarely contains a complete or authoritative resource plan.
BIMRelay keeps these project-authored Resource records in the same maintainable workbook as model-backed Types and Components. During regeneration it can preserve approved rows and revalidate Job references, preventing a fresh Autodesk Forma model extraction from erasing operational information that was never expected to live in Revit.

- A Resource is a reusable labor, material, tool, or training requirement that can be referenced by one or more maintenance or operational Jobs.
- Does Resource identify a specific employee?
- Usually not. Resource describes the capability or item required for the work. Named people and organizations are represented on the Contact worksheet.
- How do Jobs reference Resources?
- Job.ResourceNames points to one or more Resource.Name values. Every referenced name should exist and describe a real requirement for the task.
- Does BIMRelay generate Resources from Revit?
